I am an older woman veteran, and I recently made a lifestyle change and moved from Colorado to Wisconsin. Once I got here, I was told that the apartment which I was planning on moving into was not ready and I would have to wait an additional month before I could move in.
I had all my belongings in an expensive trailer and was then forced to find storage to store them in. I had to find additional accommodation to stay in for another month and I also had my cat. This meant using my money saved for my new apartment and that meant that I would not have enough to move in once my apartment became available, in another month.
I have medical conditions, but I was prepared to live in my car, with my cat, for a month, so I could save my move in money. I needed insulin and went to the ER at Milwaukee VA and while there a social worker suggested that I contact the VETNETS center. I did, and because of the VETNETs center I was able to stay at a hotel with my cat for a month until my apartment became available.
The VETNETS CENTER also helped me with much needed necessities, gas, and food. I don’t think I would have been able to live in my car for a month because of my medical conditions.
I cannot thank the VETNETS center enough. They thanked me for my service because they truly care about veterans’ wellbeing.
